A ryokan is a traditional Japanese guest house with shoji screen sliding window and door shutters, bamboo floor mats, onsen outdoor thermal tubs to soak in, tatami mats to sleep on, kimonos and bamboo sandles to wear in the guest house and low tables and chairs.
Breakfast served in our room included grilled fish, pickled vegetables, seaweed in sesame sauce, tofu with chives, rice, cold blocks of scrambled eggs and tea.
