Kinkaku-ji [the Golden Pavilion] - Kyoto

A Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto with solid gold leaf applied to the entire upper two stories, was rebuilt after the 14th century original temple was destroyed by fire. The surrounding gardens and lily ponds are of the Muromachi period garden design. Insence adds to the atmosphere of the gardens.
